The Fabric of Ashford is a community effort to build an art installation around the Ashford bandstand that captures our sentiment after this difficult year but also looks ahead with hope and positivity. It will involve a series of free workshops inviting people to be inspired by the Recovery Poems and to create fabric-based artworks that will get incorporated to the installation throughout the summer, making it a living growing tribute piece.
Saturday 17th July come to the High Street in Ashford to be inspired by the Recovery Poems illuminated artwork. There you will also be invited to take part in a creative fabric-based workshop to contribute to our installation The Fabric of Ashford which will transform the bandstand into an inspiring tribute from and for the community.

Let’s create together! On Saturday 17th July, from 1pm, come to the High Street to see and get inspired by the Recovery Poems. The Recovery Poems have been visiting many communities in England as a way to look back on the hard period we’ve all been through as a community, but also to bring a message of hope for the future. It was written collaboratively by poets Deanna Rodger and Robert Montgomery.

Learn the collaborative process behind the creation of the Recovery Poems and get inspired to participate on The Fabric of Ashford, our collective effort to transform the bandstand into a beautiful and inspiring tribute! The poems will be visiting Ashford’s town centre Saturday 17th and 31st July and Sat 14th August. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML4FwCkecA8

There a many more ways you can get involved! From Monday 19th July you can visit Made in Ashford in Park Mall and ask for a piece of fabric so you can get creative sewing, painting or embroidering at home. Or you can pop in to donate remnants of fabric too!

How can you contribute to our Fabric of Ashford art installation? Besides taking part on the creative workshops on the town centre (17th and 31st July, and 14th August) you can also donate pieces of fabric to Made in Ashford for others to transform into beautiful artworks. Got a story to tell about this fabric? Let us know when you donate the fabric or use #fabricofashford on social media
How can you contribute to the Fabric of Ashford art installation on the bandstand? In the spirit of the padlock tradition seen across many bridges in the world, we have designed the Memory Knots which you can also easily make at home and tie to the bandstand. Let us know what yours mean by using #fabricofashford on social media!
