International Women's Day 2024

 International Women’s Day events in Ashford.

This little bundle of fun, celebration & awareness has been brought to you by a group of female led local organisations coming together to offer a range of different things to do for a variety of age groups & interests.
Womxn Up Ashford has been growing for the past few years now born from the inspiring events other local towns have that we have visited & the desire to do our own here in Ashford.
It all started with a couple of us local town center business owners sharing & celebrating local women on our social media platforms. Now we have a whole programme of events for you to get involved with!

The events are as follows:

Collaborative art piece open call & sessions - 2nd March, 8th & 9th March 12- 2pm FREE

Make your own square to our collaborative art piece. We are welcoming all submissions from any age & all people. You can collect a square from The Craftship or make your own piece of card 21cm square (we will punch holes in the edges). The theme is Inspire & Include which is the theme for this years international women's day. You can paint, collage, write or decorate your square in any way you wish. Submissions are to be dropped off at Made in Ashford or The Craftship. Deadline will be 2pm 8th March.

Diversify LGBTQIA Social IWD Special - 7th March 7.30pm-10.30pm @Coachworks FREE

Paracise class - Fri 8th 10.30 - 11.15 @Harpers Cafe Community Room at Victoria Park FREE
A low-impact movement class aimed at the over 50's and those recovering from injury or wanted to start exercising.

Girls Night Out - 8th March 7pm-12 @Coachworks £30 early bird £40 after

 Celebrating International Women’s Day in style! An informal, inclusive night out with a bunch of brilliant women, eating good food, drinking local booze and dancing to some seriously epic tunes. Fundraiser for the Beehive to support women in Ashford. You will receive a drink & food token as well as music, craft, dancing & fun.

Family craft session celebrating International Women’s Day - Sat 9 March 10.30-11.15 @The Craftship

Get creative with Made in Ashford team and celebrate International Women’s Day through celebrating & making. We will have a variety of different craft activities themed around women who inspire us I'm these 45 minute sessions held at the Craftship in Park Mall. Book your slot here.

Community Platter and Natter - Sat 9 March 1-4pm @Revelation St Mary's Church

B-Arts Co are creating a Community Platter and natter - collecting the flavours of Ashford as part of our #internationalwomensday events this year.

Ashford has such a rich and diverse community, we want a chance for you to share your recipes, share your heritage and stories in a great big bring and share. Y’know, like a street party where we all bring something to add to the table to share with everyone in our community!

Everyone is welcome to attend a fun run around Victoria Park for International Women’s Day.

(Which happens just after junior park run if you fancy a bit of that too!)

Park Write Family Creative Writing Session - Sun 10th March 10 - 11am @Harpers Cafe Community Room at Victoria Park FREE

Celebrate International Women's Day and Mother's Day in one with a family creative writing and storytelling workshop at Victoria Park.
This hour long session includes:
Puppet making
Story craft
Haiku writing
Found poetry
Story cubes and cards
An area with books and puppets for smaller children
A selection of stories and poems from female writers.

Women and words - Sun 10th March 11.15-12.15  @Harpers Cafe Community Room at Victoria Park FREE
A safe writing space for anyone who identifies as female where we will explore a range of writing prompts as well as the work of acclaimed female writers. We will work towards creating our own finished pieces.

Reclaim these Streets Reflective Walk, Vigil & Spoken Word - 4pm - 5pm @outside Mr. Harpers Cafe in Victoria Park
Walk together to the Hubert Fountain where the spoken word will happen at 4.30pm.

Nominate Women who inspire you in Ashford - Running through out the event
Do you know an amazing woman in Ashford? Is there someone you think should be celebrated for all they do? Send us your nominations along with a picture and a few words of why you want to celebrate this person and we will share and celebrate with you!
